Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1 Replacement Upper Unit 1.98/1.94 Ratio 1972-1990
This upper unit replaces Alpha One and Pre-Alpha upper units from 1982-1990 with a 3.0 liter 4 cylinder engine. It comes with a 9-9/16" input yoke and it replaces the 1.98/ 1.94 gear ratios with a tooth count of 20/24. It is a brand new unit manufactured by SEI, and it comes with a 3 year no-fault warranty. General Information
SEI Marine Products uses FedEx Ground, FedEx 2-Day, and FedEx Priority Overnight for orders within the United States. Extra charges apply to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Guam and SP.
Combine orders and save on shipping! For all Domestic and International customers, please request an invoice at check out if you are ordering multiple items. Due to different items with different weights, we ask that you request an invoice for the correct shipping total. You will receive an invoice via eBay after items are combined with the correct total.
Multiple items may arrive in separate packages. All shipments will have a tracking number emailed to the email address that you have provided us and will be traceable through the shipping company's web site. Domestic Shipping
Alaska and Hawaii customers, your items will ship out via FedEx 2-Day. Please inquire before purchasing on rates and transit times.
**All packages shipped within the state of Florida will be charged a 7% sales tax. **
International Shipping
We ship items internationally via FedEx International Economy. Please request an invoice at check-out so that we can select the correct shipping amount and method. If for some reason there is a miscalculation in the shipping cost we will have to collect the money via paypal before the item(s) are shipped out.
SEI Marine Products will not be fraudulent on any customs forms, so please do not ask. We only put the true value of the items in the box. We do not pay for any international customs fees or duties.
We cannot issue return call tags for international customers. Please ensure you are purchasing the correct items before completing your check out . All returned items for international customers will be shipped at the customers expense. If you have purchased the wrong item and need to return you will not be refunded your original shipping money.
If a package is returned to us for non-receipt, you will be refunded minus the shipping costs. If you would like the package resent to you, there will be another shipping charge.

SEI Marine Products hopes that you will be happy with your new purchase and that everything meets or exceeds your expectations. This is not always the case and sometimes you get the wrong item whether it is not what you thought, or it is the wrong part for your application. SEI Marine Products will gladly accept your return within 60 days for items that are in new, sellable condition and have not been installed. General Information for Selecting and Purchasing an SEI 104/106 Upper Gearcase
SEI sterndrives do not include new anodes / zincs. Kit part number 90-106-05K includes all anodes for a Gen 1 drive. SEI drives are compatible with OEM and other aftermarket anodes.
All SEI drives and gearcases are covered by SEI's three year Fault Free warranty. The unit is covered for three years for breakage and damage; including failures resulting from lack of oil, fishing line, impact and other abuse.
SEI replacement drives for Alpha I Gen I drives are available with two different input yoke lengths. Please see the image below to verify the yoke length you need.
SEI 106 drives use the 9-9/16 length yoke. SEI 104 drives use the 8-18
SEI offers replacement drives for both Gen I and Gen II Alpha sterndrives. The two styles are not interchangeable. Please see the images below and compare them to your existing sterndrive to determine that you are ordering the correct style replacement sterndrive.

Mercruiser Model Number to Gear Ratio Chart
Replaces most Mercruiser Sterndrives from 120 -260 HP 1967-1990.
Your Mercruiser Sterndrive must have trim and tilt to be able to use our replacement drive.
If your Mercruiser Sterndrive is between 1967-1969 you must verify that you have 13 splines on your upper driveshaft.
Ships in two boxes. Comes with 9 -9/16 input yoke.
Does not include Complete Install Kit or Anode Kit. Please see related items below.
To determine if you have a counter rotation unit on your twin engine boat it is easiest to look at the props. If the props are identical orientation, then they are both standards. If the prop blades are opposite, then the port should be a counter rotation.

These are typical applications, it is best to confirm your ratio by counting the teeth in the upper. Although great care was taken in the creation of this guide, SEI cannot guarantee its accuracy.
Unit has an 8 spline driveshaft on the lower unit. If your unit is original, you need to purchase a complete.
Unit has a short yoke on the upper driveshaft. We refer to this as the Old Style
***Applies to all inline 4 and inline six cylinder engines up until and including 1982***
Unit must have trim and tilt for our Replacement to work. If it has two trim hoses going to each cylinder, it has trim and tilt.
Unit has an eyelet on top cover. Replacement unit will not.
Unit has a round cavitation plate on lower unit. Replacement unit will not.
Unit may have an o-ring and/or a preload pin on lower unit driveshaft. The replacement will not.
Gear Ratio must be confirmed. Chart above is typical applications, however there is no guarantee it is correct.
